The people in my graduating class are celebrating a milestone this year, so we’re having a reunion in September. Before that happens, though, a few of us got together last night for a drink. I’ll also admit to a lot of nervousness yesterday afternoon. I wasn’t sure what to expect.
We had a great time talking about everything that’s happened in the past thirty years. There were people sitting at the table last night that I haven’t seen since we left school, and it was fascinating to hear about their experiences. My friend Lisa asked me why I was so quiet. There was a lot to listen to!
It’s weird to be this age. Inside your head, you’re still 25. The world is wide open. At the same time, our bodies are aging, and we can’t quite do all the stuff we used to. Most of the people at last night’s gathering have kids; there was lots of discussion about what’s happening with their children. When we weren’t talking about that, there was conversation about jobs, spouses (and ex-spouses,) the usual stuff people talk about that have known each other since elementary school, and want to tell someone they haven’t seen for awhile.
We’ll see each other again. I look forward to it!
