Online passwords: Satan’s playgrounds!

Filed under: Local news, minor annoyances of everyday life, rants — strategerie @ 1:11 pm

I’m a little frustrated. Everyone will just have to deal. Right now, this has me madder than the officiating at Super Bowl XL, and that’s saying a LOT.

We pay most of our bills now online. We can check our bank balances online, too. You’d think this would be convenient. What a time-saver, huh? I can find out how much is in the checking account at 3:00 a.m.! Isn’t that great? It would be great, if I could remember the freaking PASSWORD!

We haveĀ a password for everything. Of course, they must conform to the correct number of letters and numbers, are or are not case-sensitive, must be exact, or one finds herself cruelly rebuffed. I write them down. I guard them zealously. Of course, there is a fly in my ointment. The entity in question changes their login rules. The password must be changed every 90 days. The password is not exact. AAARGH!

Might I express my hatred of a certain mortgage entity, for instance, that rhymes with “Mace”? We like paying online. It’s easier. It’s faster. We have a RECORD. Well, we’d have a RECORD when we could actually log in to their online payment system! Lately, this involves multiple phone calls, proof of our loan number, various and sundry other items, including an Act of Congress… Last month, I called to make the house payment because (as usual,) my log on wasn’t working. After twenty minutes of verification questions, the woman I was talking with informed me she couldn’t TALK TO ME because I was not the primary signer. I’m on the loan paperwork! My response? “All I want to do is give you guys some money! Can I give you some money?” Fortunately for me, she relented, and allowed me to make our house payment.

Going to my happy place — sunshine, puppies, lots of cruelty-free dark chocolate, smart, funny and cute guys who worship the ground I walk on, and a complimentary shopping spree at Tiffany! Could anything be better?

There’s probably a password, isn’t there?

  1. Of course your happy place requires a password now. Can’t have just anyone walking around there, can we?

I’m considering signing up for online bill paying thru my credit union. In theory, there will only be one password, and at least it’s already been memorized!

The drawback is, you have to make the payment 3-5 days in advance. I usually need the payment to go thru that day or the next. Or set them up on autopay, but that makes me nervous.
