The official TLPC review of “Sex and the City: The Movie”

Ahh. Mr. Big.

I realize it’s been twenty-four hours since I saw the movie, which is prehistoric in blog terms. Everyone’s going to have to deal. The Dauphin needed some attention. Of course, I was happy to comply!

I hate movie reviews with spoilers, so here it is: I loved it. I had a great time. I sat with my friend Jane and a group of her friends, and I could not have had more fun. Jane is a local celebrity now, so I basked in her reflected glory. Ty the Surfer Guy is in town for a few days, so she’s off enjoying some time with him!

Oh. The movie. Let me see here: The clothes — FABULOUS. The shoes — even more FABULOUS. Sarah Jessica Parker is starting a new trend: A single opera-length strand of pearls, worn everywhere and with everything. It sent me home and digging through the jewelry box for one! I loved the plot. Again, without spoiling, there’s a happy ending. Above all, this movie is about forgiveness. What does it take to forgive someone you think has committed a wrong against you? What will happen if you don’t forgive? How will your life be different if you can accept someone else’s apology and move forward?

Again, I loved the movie. I had a ball with Jane and her friends. I’m so glad I got to go!

-S

p.s. A word for those who might have teenagers who’d like to see the movie: It’s more graphic than the television show. Let’s say that there were more than a few blushes and gasps of surprise from some of the women in the theater!

The big day is finally here!

If anyone has some free time this morning (and is in the neighborhood,) we’d love some eyewitness accounts!

Of course, TLPC hopes he enjoys his visit. If he’s asked to bring something back for his lovely bride, may I suggest the following?

Fran’s Chocolates www.franschocolates.com

Glassybaby http://www.glassybaby.com/

Hannigan/Adams Goldsmiths www.hanniganadams.com

Last but not least, the original Starbucks is still in Pike Place Market!

We hope he’ll enjoy his visit, and I’ll catch up with him on the news!

p.s. Of course, TLPC is also wondering if Mr. Fitzgerald had even the tiniest bit of interest in Scott McClellan’s assertion that Mr. Rove and Mr. Libby spent some time coordinating their stories on the Valerie Plame situation…

And Scott McClellan makes a clean breast of it. I know I’m relieved.

Filed under: Idiots, Scoundrels, and All-Around Undesirables, politics, rants — strategerie @ 6:32 am

If you’ve watched the news at all over the past forty-eight hours, you’d learn that Scott McClellan, former press secretary to the Bush administration, has a new book out. He says that the Bush administration encouraged him to lie during press briefings in the run-up to the Iraq war and beyond. Gosh. I wish I could say I was shocked, but those of us who actually watched even some of those press briefings (and read the paper n’ stuff,) knew a long time ago about the stench emanating from the White House press room.

It’s amazing what someone will do to sell a book. In the meantime, it’s a bit amusing to see Snotty Scotty’s White House talking points used against him.

If you have any time at all today, please go to Nukes and Spooks and do a little reading. You may want to start with the following: http://washingtonbureau.typepad.com/nationalsecurity/2008/05/what-happened.html Nukes and Spooks is written by two McClatchy journalists who have been reporting on the Bush administration’s efforts to “sell” the war in Iraq since 2001.

I’d love to say something profound here, but frankly, I’m at a loss. Scott McClelland, if you think all’s forgiven because you’re now biting the hand that fed you, you’re sorely mistaken. Nice to see you’ve finally grown a conscience, and we can all pay $27.95 to read all about it, can’t we? Do you feel guilt or shame, Mr. McClellan, over the four thousand plus American soldiers who are too dead to appreciate your “road to Damascus” conversion, or the untold thousands whose lives will never be the same due to significant injury? We won’t even discuss the ongoing damage to America’s reputation around the world, or your defense of a man who thinks “yee-haw” is a foreign policy.

Enjoy the money,

He’s scheduled our vacation.  We’re going on Monday, and most likely returning on Friday.

I will not miss any football games.

That is all.

I have a hot date with Mr. Big tomorrow morning, and The Dauphin is fine with it

Damn you, Manolo Blahnik! And they’re PINK!

Ahh, Mr. Big. I’d love to say that I was glued to every episode of ”Sex and the City” because I had such a thing for him, but that would be a lie.

It’s the shoes.

Every woman has some physical issue she’d really love to change. Some are lucky enough to be able to pluck, dye, lengthen, exercise or enhance it away. The only thing that’s going to work for me is foot binding. My feet are so wide I could wear the boxes instead of the shoes. It’s always been this way, and has just gotten worse as I’ve grown older. As a result, I’ve spent many fruitless hours in the Nordstrom shoe department, lusting over those cute little pointy-toed stilettos I can’t wear.

Tomorrow morning, I’ll be joining an estimated 299 other women (including Jane Porter,) for a benefit showing of “Sex and the City” at a local theater. I’ll get to spend another two hours or so admiring Mr. Big and eating my heart out over the cutest shoes I’ve ever seen. Oh, well — at least SOMEONE gets to wear them, huh?

If you’d like more information about tomorrow’s “Breakfast With The Girls”, please contact Hopelink at http://www.hope-link.org/.

Hey! It’s the Belief-o-Matic(tm)!

Filed under: Local news, fun and frolic — strategerie @ 11:11 am

My mom always told me that I shouldn’t discuss politics or religion with people I don’t know well. I’m not sure if this extends to blogging about it, but let’s give it a try.

I was reading an article at www.seattletimes.com earlier this morning, and they mentioned the following quiz. The Belief-o-Matic(tm) can help you clarify your beliefs enough to find a religion, which I found interesting. Just answering the quiz questions brings on some serious musing. (Do you believe in God? What form does that God take — corporeal, spirit, etcetera?) Plus, at the end, you’ll get a bright, shiny new church to try out! Please go to http://www.beliefnet.com/story/76/story_7665_1.html if you’d like to give it a spin.

The Belief-o-Matic(tm) thinks I’d be happiest as a Universalist Unitarian. Our grandma, a Quaker, will be thrilled to know that was the second choice. Plus, now I get to go downstairs and ask The Dauphin to take the quiz. I can’t wait to see what he comes up with!

Ahh. A holiday weekend.

Filed under: Local news, fun and frolic — strategerie @ 10:03 pm

The sun was out today, so I spent the afternoon at Redmond’s Marymoor Park watching The Dauphin fly his radio-controlled airplane. We have other plans tomorrow. Needless to say, I’ll most likely be back Monday.

I hope that everyone’s having a terrific holiday weekend, and sometimes it’s good to take a break, isn’t it?

:sniff:

The readers of The Little Pink Clubhouse have waited years for this, haven’t we? If you live in the area (and can skip out of the office for a couple of hours on Friday, May 30th,) you, too, can see America’s Hottest Prosecutor in person. He’s giving a speech at a tribute to the late King County prosecutor, Norm Maleng. Thanks to Western Gal for alerting me to this fact!

I hate to break it to my loyal readership, but I won’t be there. There is a line between giggling on a blog and real life, and it’s good to not cross that line. I won’t begrudge anyone else’s wallowing in the fabulousness that is PJF, though, so make your plans now!

Of course, The Little Pink Clubhouse is all about welcoming people visiting my hometown, so here are a few suggestions for things to do while he’s here.

1. My Seattle Mariners are playing the Tigers. We won’t talk about their win-loss record, but the beer’s good. Try the “rally” garlic fries,  or the barbecue on the third level. Plus, it’s a great chance to see Ichiro at his home field.

2. Seafood abounds. There are many great suggestions of places to go to obtain it. Everyone in the country has seen the Pike Place Market’s flying fish guys, so try Tom Douglas’ Etta’s instead. http://www.tomdouglas.com/ettas/index.html

3. If it’s sunny, it’s gorgeous. If it’s raining, only tourists use umbrellas. We have the third worst traffic in the United States, but he’s from the undisputed world champion of awful traffic. Maybe he’s used to it!

4. The one spot he must see? Hmm, let me think… Pike Place Market’s fun, but crowded. Space Needle? Meh. Ferries? With the latest reports, forget it. I hope it will be sunny – he’ll see Mount Rainier if it is! Here’s the place everyone finds amazing: Snoqualmie Falls. http://www.snoqualmiefalls.com/ Also, Fremont’s always interesting to visit. He can pose with the statue of Lenin, and see the Fremont Troll!

5. Alki Beach in West Seattle is a good place to go running. Of course, I’m not a runner, so this is an educated guess.

6. The Dilettante Cafe has more handmade truffles than one can shake a stick at. http://www.dilettante.com/ These are good for pacifying slightly irritated wives, or heartbroken women who have a crush on him!

7. There’s hiking, biking, white-water rafting, mountain climbing, kayaking, camping, you name it, we have it.

8. I’m sure he can find his way to the roughly fifteen million Starbucks locations within the city of Seattle. If not, he can always visit the SoDo world headquarters.

Welcome to my hometown, and I hope he enjoys his visit!

An open letter to ABC

Filed under: Local news, football — strategerie @ 1:34 am

Dear ABC,

After tonight’s “Dancing with the Stars” broadcast, it seems to me you’re overlooking a gold mine. I realize it’s sexist and demeaning, but it must be said: If Jason Taylor wants to rip his shirt off for an hour each Monday night, I’ll be tuning in. I know I should love him for his mind, but I just can’t get past the bulging muscles, the chiseled jaw, and the gorgeous smile. So sue me.

There are several other men whom I’d enjoy watching rip THEIR shirts off on your network. I’ll forward you that list as soon as possible.

Let’s face it, a shirtless Jason Taylor makes the world a more beautiful place, doesn’t it?

Fondly,

The Dauphin would like to make a career change

Filed under: Uncategorized — strategerie @ 10:52 am

Without getting into TMI territory, I paid a visit to Nordstrom’s lingerie department yesterday afternoon. Every woman in America knows exactly what I’m talking about when I say that it was bra shopping time. Eight in ten women don’t wear the correct size, and Nordstrom has expert fitters. They also have a huge selection, so the chances were good that I was going to find something that would work.

Since I have never appeared on “Girls Gone Wild” (I missed that whole debauchery thing,) it’s weird to have another woman adjusting the girls. Truly, the fitter that was working with me was actually very professional, and did a great job. At the same time, I’m a bit unused to this. I was describing the experience to The Dauphin later, who promptly said, “How can I get that job?” Of course, being the smart man he is, he also insisted that I would be the only woman he’d be fitting. Bless his heart.

Software project manager to bra fitter? Only in America.

In the meantime, if you need a new bra and would like to get one that actually fits, feel free to either visit the Nordstrom near you, or go to www.nordstrom.com for some expert tips.
